I am a husband, father and grandfather. I am also a man who is in long-term recovery who has a son in recovery as well. So, it is safe to say there is nothing an addict or parent has gone through that I have not experienced firsthand. Recovery is personal to me. So much so that, at the age of 52, I closed a successful consulting firm and returned to school to pursue becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. Along with my advanced training, I brings 50+ years of life experience to every individual, family and group session.
I created Not-In-Stone Counseling (NiSC) to help those struggling with substance abuse find a way back to sobriety. I believe in the prevention and treatment of drug and alcohol addiction through education, counseling, evidence-based interventions, public outreach, and client advocacy. I believe that no one’s illness should dictate the quality of their future and that their pain and struggle are real. Every addict’s life matters so, as long as there is breath, there is hope. In other words, no one’s future is carved in stone.
Mine wasn’t.

Individual Counsel
Individual counseling sessions focus on the answers to two questions, “what happened to cause the individual to first use alcohol and/or drugs,” and “why.” We believe that inside of every addict or substance abuser there is a point where something “broke” and the need to cope with an unseen pain was created. It is during individual counseling that we work to help each person discover what is behind their pain and then assist them with finding new ways of coping with it.
Family Counseling
The disease of addiction affects everyone close to an addict. Your ability to cope with addiction is a direct function of how much you and the other family members know about the struggle that lies ahead of you. Even though you may have been living with alcohol and/or drug problems for some time, getting more information about addiction is a critical first step. You cannot rely on common sense or popular myths. We will help you and your family set effective boundaries but, most importantly, you will learn that you are not alone and, slowly, you and your family will begin to live healthy and happy lives once more.
Support Groups
The addicted user and family groups are each structured to run for nine (9) weeks. They are evidence-based and designed to instill the tools and techniques necessary for the addict to move forward and the family to rebuild. A new peace is possible, but it starts with open, honest conversations, solid boundaries, true understanding, and forgiveness. It will take time and patience, but our support groups will enable addicts and their families to move into a new, recovered life. The family group meets once a week and the user’s group meets twice.
